25 Bible Verses for Dads and Father's Day
If you are a dad, you know the weight of it.
By Daniel Reeves · Editor, The Bible Well
If you are a dad, you know the weight of it. The joy is real, and so is the worry that you are not enough. Maybe you just held your newborn for the first time. Maybe your kids are grown and you wish you could do some years over. Or maybe you are here looking for a verse to give your father on Father's Day or his birthday. These verses are for all of you. They begin with God, the Father every dad learns from, and move through encouragement for tired dads, words for teaching and blessing your children, and grace for the days you fall short. Read them slowly. You do not have to be a perfect father to be held by a perfect one.
Matthew 7:11
01
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
Matthew 7:11
Jesus points to the ordinary love of a dad handing his child bread instead of a stone. Every good thing you have ever given your kids is a small picture of the Father who gives far more to you.
Isaiah 64:8
02
Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

Isaiah 40:11
03
He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

04
Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

05
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9
So much of a father's work is quiet and unseen, the bedtime prayers and the car rides and the same lesson taught for the tenth time. Paul promises that none of it is wasted, even when you cannot see it growing yet.
Proverbs 14:26
06
Whoever fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.

We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, his power, and the wonders he has done.
