The Chosen is the first multi-season television series built entirely around the life of Jesus, and it tells the story in a way most films never have, through the ordinary people who were changed by meeting him. Created and directed by Dallas Jenkins, it follows Mary Magdalene, Simon Peter, Matthew, Nicodemus and others as their lives collide with a rabbi from Nazareth. The series leans on the four Gospels for its events while imagining the human texture around them, the conversations on the road, the meals, the doubts, and the slow dawning of who Jesus is. Funded largely by its own viewers rather than a studio, it grew from a small crowd-funding campaign into one of the most widely watched faith projects in the world, translated into dozens of languages. For many viewers it has become a doorway back into the Gospels themselves, sending them to read the accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John with fresh eyes.
